An Analysis of the Legal Regime on Offshore Oil and Gas Installations

The oceans have been beneficial to mankind for centuries and utilised in diverse ways. The traditional uses of the sea include carriage of goods fishing adventure conquest transportation from one place to the other and facilitating travels to discover new regions people and cultures. Today the uses of the sea are still the same save to indicate that conquest is no longer common in the modern dispensation. With modernisation coupled with development of sophisticated technology this era has been characterised by expanded uses of the sea which were never envisaged in centuries past. These modern uses include recreation tourism aquaculture communication marine scientific research shipping to enhanced international trade and commerce exploitation and exploration of offshore oil and gas (hereinafter referred to as O&G) and other activities carried on at sea.
