AN ELUSIVE TRUTH

<p><em>Time is as elusive as truth</em> barks Carrick the hard-bitten News Editor. And when Lucas a young and ambitious journalist finds himself disoriented by fear and lies in Haiti Carrick's words resonate.</p><p></p><p>Lucas is sent to Haiti to research promised elections but unexpectedly finds himself amid massive street protests. The airport shuts down communications are severed and his reports make global headlines. Haunted by his past and bewildered by the present Lucas becomes friends with Marie a committed revolutionary. While he strives to remain an objective observer she is devoted to the uprising. Together they might possess the power to topple a dictator but in Haiti life can be brutally short.</p><p></p><p>Plagued by the belief that he could have prevented his sister's death Lucas still sees her speaks to her and confides in her although this haunting remains his closely guarded secret. His editor would never have dispatched him to Haiti had he known that Lucas's interest was partly driven by a fascination with voodoo and the widespread Haitian belief that the dead exert a tangible influence over the living.</p><p></p><p>Initially tasked with researching for a documentary Lucas is quickly overwhelmed by the brutal conflict between unarmed protesters and an army bent on maintaining a dictator's rule. Surrounded by violence fear and poverty Lucas finds death ever-present and his quest for solace leads him on a path that will either define the rest of his life or end it.</p>
