An Investigation of Transformational Leadership in the Ramayana

This work intends to explore a model leader from the angle of Maharishi Vedic Science (MVS) by looking into the Rāmāyaṇa. Many of the students and professionals in the fields of management and leadership realize the uncertainty of the modern literature. The leadership literature in particular is written with great uncertainty and therefore is open to interpretation in light of one’s level of understanding prior experience knowledge consciousness culture etc. Therefore this research chooses to look into the bigger picture and consults the Rāmāyaṇa of Vālmīki as a part of the ancient Vedic Literature. In this research the story of Rām is qualitatively studied as a case study of exemplary leadership in terms of inspiring the motivation of his followers. As a result of this study a number of themes emerged illustrating Rām’s leadership and its features. These features are discussed in light of concepts about Natural Law and Higher States of Consciousness from Maharishi Vedic Science point of view. Through technologies of MVS it may be possible to enliven natural law in the consciousness of leaders for a fuller realization of the ideals of leadership personified in Rām.
