Mesenchymal stem cells are of great therapeutic potential because of their ability to self-renew and differentiate into multiple tissues. Ageing in these cells is accompanied by a progressive decline in its function resulting in less effective tissue homeostasis and repair. The main aim of our work is to find a set of key genes which have significant roles in ageing of mesenchymal stromal cells and also to find out how they are regulating other genes or pathways. With the invention of DNA microarray technology it is now possible to look globally at gene expression across the genome. By studying gene expression profile we can know the interactions between genes and how this ultimately impacts on the ageing of mesenchymal stromal cells. Mesenchymal stem cells are in the center of attention of many investigators due to easy isolation from many tissues. MSC capability to differentiate into many cell types makes them a starting point of many new therapies especially in tissue engineering.
