Description
Author
Prince Peter Kropotkin (1842–1921) one of the few members of the Russian aristocracy who join the revolution gave up his title at the age of 12. He later rose to prominence as an anarchy theorist. The renowned geographer and social philosopher spent the next 42 years of his life in exile mostly in England after being forced to leave his own country in the 1870s to avoid being arrested for his revolutionary actions against the czarist government. Kropotkin published several pamphlets about the moral and practical facets of the anarchist movement at this time. When he was given permission to return to Russia in 1917 he kept writing while vehemently opposing the Bolsheviks and Marxist socialism. Several of his significant writings are included in this collection such as the succinct but stirring ""Spirit of Revolt"" ""Modern Science and Anarchism"" which explores the scientific foundations of revolutionary anarchism ""Law and Authority"" which makes the case for social control through tradition and education ""Prisons and Their Moral Influence on Prisoners"" which is a peerless description of the horrors of the prison system (which Kropotkin witnessed during his incarcerations) The Encyclopaedia Britannica article ""Anarchism"" by Kropotkin which is regarded as the greatest English-language explanation of the definition background and objectives of revolutionary anarchism is also republished. This reasonably priced collection will interest anybody interested in elements of anarchist ideology and is a welcome addition to the libraries of professors and students of history and governance.
