Reared in depression-era West Virginia Florence Baltimore McDaniels always wanted to become a teacher. She immersed herself in books throughout her years in elementary and high school. Even while working as a maid during the summer months for a prominent family Florence would (upon permission) visit the family library and read books. She excelled in school and in college earning a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Education and a Masters of Arts Degree in Education.
