<p>The short-story is one of the most important literary subgenres in Urdu literature despite its relative youth. This was influenced by western and literary concepts and tendencies as well as the contemporary industrial and mechanized environment. Hayatullah Ansari's personality is full of qualities. He was a distinguished novelist a skilled journalist and critic as well as an educationist. He was primarily a progressive writer and a leader of the Urdu Movement. He was interested in fiction from the very beginning and this trend continued until the end. He founded a new style by combining the schools of French and Russian realism. Most of his stories depict social conflicts especially the problems of the lower classes. Poverty pain anguish and sorrow abound in them. The value of man and the realism of life are the basic characteristics of Hayatullah Ansari's stories. Both of these things are found in his stories to the fullest.</p><p>/</p><p>حیات اللہ انصاری کی شخصیت جامع صفات کی حامل ہے۔ وہ ایک ممتاز ناول نویس، جید صحافی اور ناقد ہونے کے ساتھ ماہرِ تعلیم بھی رہے ہیں۔ بنیادی طور پر ایک ترقّی پسند ادیب ہونے کے ساتھ تحریکِ اردو کے قائد بھی رہے۔ انہیں شروع سے ہی افسانوی ادب سے دلچسپی رہی اور یہ سلسلہ آخر وقت تک برقرار رہا۔ انھوں نے فرانسیسی اور روسی حقیقت نگاری کے دبستانوں کو ملا کر ایک نئے اسلوب کی بنیاد ڈالی۔ ان کے افسانوں میں زیادہ تر معاشرتی کش مکش، بالخصوص نچلے طبقات کے مسائل کی منظر کشی کی گئی ہے۔ ان کے ہاں غربت، درد، کرب اور غم کی کثرت ہے۔ انسان کی قدر و قیمت اور زندگی کی حقیقت پسندی حیات اللہ انصاری کے افسانوں کی بنیادی پہچان ہیں۔ یہ دونوں چیزیں ان کے افسانوں میں بدرجہ اتم پائی جاتی ہیں۔</p>
