Animal Farm & Keep the Aspidistra Flying

The grand theme of Animal Farm has to do with the capacity for ordinary individuals to continue to believe in a revolution that has been utterly betrayed. Orwell attempts to reveal how those in power-Napoleon and his fellow pigs-pervert the democratic promise of the revolution. Animal Farm known at the beginning and the end of the novel as the Manor Farm symbolizes Russia and the Soviet Union under Communist Party rule. Keep the Aspidistra Flying first published in 1936 is a socially critical novel by George Orwell. In the titular phrase Orwell uses the aspidistra a symbol of the stuffiness of middle-class society in conjunction with the locution to keep the flag (or colours) flying. The title can thus be interpreted as a sarcastic exhortation in the sense of Hooray for the middle class!.
