About The Book

1937 October 2. A young Tamil man travelling from Newyork to Dublin by ship had a dream - to make a documentary film on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. For two and half years he travelled around the world twice. A hundred thousand-mile journey. He gathered fifty thousand mile length films captured by a hundred camerapersons over three decades. The film was released in 1940. Later in 1953 he produced its English version in Hollywood. The young man was A.K. Chettiar the pioneer of travel literature in Tamil. This book is a collection of notes written by him about the production of his movie on Gandhi. A.R. Venkatachalapathy has edited the book and has written an elaborate foreword introducing A.K. Chettiar's life and works.
