Antenna Coupling Effects in Handheld and Mobile Applications

About The Book

This work analyzes antenna coupling effects in smallwireless handheld and mobile devices.Further it provides suggestions how to minimize them.Modern communication devices have to support severalstandards while the total system and PCB size needsto be decreased. This results in rising mutualcoupling. Demands for improved receiver sensitivityand limited transmit power aggravate the requirementson separation of the systems.Part 1 presents information about standards wavepropagation on PCBs fundamentalsof 3D electromagnetic FEM simulations and S-parametermeasurement basics. Part 2 dealswith the results from the simulation of simpli?edmobile phone boards. Part 3 presents the measurementresults of selected con?gurations. It is shown that the optimization of the antennapositions provides an option to relax demands to theneeded ?lters. In addition modi?cations to the PCBare introduced which signi?cantly improve decouplingbetween the antennas.
