Antibacterial and antioxidant activity of Chenopodium album striatum

A wide range of plants is discovered to present therapeutic effects. Some plant species poses remarkable fame for magical therapeutic applications such as Thymus vulgaris but some are less known. C.album (subsp striatum) which belong to last one. In recent years antibiotic resistance has become a serious and widespread problem in developing countries and it is result of inappropriate usage abusive and over prescription of antibiotics causing mortality each year. Global emergence of resistant bacteria is the result of ineffectiveness of current antibiotics and drugs causing treatment failure. Hence there has been a growing interest by using alternative therapy and the therapeutic use of natural products specially medicinal plant. Free radical formation is the result of the normal metabolism of aerobic cells. Consumption of oxygen in cell growth lead to production of oxygen free radical which are involving in various type of diseases such as cancer hypotension diabetic neurological disorder like alzeimer. We screened the in vitro antibacterial activity and antioxidant effect of C.album (subsp Striatum) as potential sources of natural antimicrobial and antioxidant agents.
