Enterococcus faecalis is one of the agents responsible and frequently associated with cases of secondary and persistent endodontic infections so it is among the most important and problematic microorganisms related to the failure of endodontic treatment. Thus facing the challenging presence of pathogens even after instrumentation and use of chemical agents researches with new methodologies that elucidate the effectiveness of chemical disinfection techniques already recommended and in search of materials to define an effective treatment strategy to eradicate them including the search for an efficient intracanal medication have become constant. Thus the aim of this study was to review the literature regarding the antimicrobial efficiency of intracanal medication against Enterococcus faecalis. A search of scientific articles monographs dissertations and books was conducted using the following Descriptors in Health Sciences (DeCS): Root Canal Treatment; Enterococcus faecalis; Endodontics; Dental Biofilm. The search was limited to texts published between the years 2009 and 2019 in Portuguese English and French languages.
