Antimicrobial activity of natural local plant extracts

About The Book

In the present work we were interested in studying the antimicrobial activity of medicinal plant extracts. The first part of this study concerned the extraction and quantification of polyphenols alkaloids and essential oils from three local plants. According to our results D.stramonium and R.communis showed low levels of polyphenols and alkaloids. The Atlas Pistachio showed a low yield of EO. In the second part of the work we studied the antimicrobial activity of these extracts by the agar diffusion technique. We noticed that the alkaloid extracts of Ricin and Stramoine showed inhibitory activity against all strains except F.oxysporum. However the phenolic extracts of Ricin inhibited only the P.aeruginosa strain. The EO of P.atlantica showed activity on all strains studied and we determined MICs extracts with activity on the different strains. Only the extracts of stramine showed inhibitory activity on E.coli and A.flavus. The EO of P.atlantica showed inhibition on E.coli and F.oxysporum.
