Antimicrobial and antitumor substance(s) produced by Actinomycetes

About The Book

The emergence of extensive antibiotics resistant bacteria increased the demands for find out new source of antimicrobial agent Actinomycetes especially Streptomycetes spp have recently grasped considerable attention worldwide due to production of many useful bioactive metabolites that exploited by the pharmaceutical industry. In present study a number of 52 Actinomycetes were recovered from which 20 showed antimicrobial activities to at least one tested organism. The most potent isolate AGM12-1 which was active against all tested organisms and with IC50 3.3 and 1.1μg/ml. against HCT 116 and HepG-2 respectively was characterized as Streptomyces vinaceusdrappus with presence of ARO-PKS II genes. Mannitol ammonium sulfate pH 7 2% stating inoculums and incubation for 11 days at 30°c were the optimum conditions used to maximize the production and hence allowed purification of one active compound to homogeneity using RP-HPLC with m/z 488.05.The NMR structural elucidation showed that this compound was a derivative of Diketopiperazine.
