About The Book

This research project is aimed at finding out whether Senna didymobotrya has the active principles responsible for treatment of deadly typhoid disease and candidiasis. The leaves from S. didymobotrya were extracted by boiling using distilled water and freeze dried. The extract was screened for phytochemicals present and bioassay was done to check on the activity of the leaf extract on S. typhi and C. albicans using paper disk diffusion method. The diameter (in mm) of the zones of inhibition was measured and recorded at 37◦C after incubating for 24hour. The data was analysed and results of this study were forwarded to contribution in continuing search for alternative cure for typhoid and candidiasis. The inhibitions were higher at higher concentration of 1mg/ml of up to 15mm in C. albicans and decreased to 8mm as the concentration was decreased to 0.01mg/ml. The extract showed decrease in zone of inhiition with decrease in extract concentration and a significant linear trend where P value was <0.05. This confirmed that the leaf extract of S. didymobotrya had antimicrobial effects.
