Antimicrobial susceptibility and molecular epidemiology of Salmonella

Salmonella is considered to be one of the most prevalent microorganisms in foodborne outbreaks and is a major health problem in industrialised and developing countries. In recent years Salmonella serotypes isolated from food have shown an increase in antimicrobial resistance particularly those of animal origin. In addition a higher incidence of human salmonellosis has been reported due to multi-drug resistant strains. The book presents a theoretical and experimental approach to the molecular epidemiology of Salmonella spp. isolated from food and humans in different cities in Brazil. This book is useful for all readers interested in understanding the spread of pathogenic microorganisms in food and clinical specimens over time.
