Antiretroviral Treatment Interruptions among HIV and AIDS Patients

With interruption of treatment ART can be ineffective wasteful and dangerous as it can result in hospitalization new opportunistic infections and premature death. Additionally the impact of treatment interruptions include increased use of medical resources drug resistance some might develop and transmit resistance strains to their spouses and or sexual partners who have been responding well on ART with resultant treatment failure. Treatment interruptions is also an important factor in drug resistance and treatment failure it is also a powerful predictor of survival. Therefore failure to strictly monitor patients‟ to prevent interruption of treatment might compromise patients‟ survival leading to more deaths from the disease.
