Aapli Aapli Bete (Our Own Islands) is a collection of ten short stories that highlight the contradiction of isolation in an overconnected world. Even though technology has seemingly brought humans closer together than ever miscommunication and loneliness abound. People are left feeling as if they are on their individual islands drifting further and further apart from one another. These short stories delve into the complex relationships people build and maintain with one another from complicated family dynamics to friendships and highlight how people become closer to each other despite their distance. माणसाला बुद्धी आणि भावनांचे वरदान मिळाले आहे. पण जर बुद्धी आणि भावना यांची सरमिसळ झाली किंवा अतिरेक झाला तर मात्र माणसाची बुद्धी स्थिर राहू शकत नाही. आणि मग माणसाचा स्वतःशी इतरांशी संघर्ष सुरू होतो. यामध्ये सगळ्यात फटका बसतो तो माणसा- माणसातल्या अनमोल नात्याला. भावनांच्या गुंत्यामुळे विविध नात्यांत येणार तणाव आणि वेगवेगळ्या टप्प्यांवर नाती निभावताना होणारी फरफट हे या कथासंग्रहाचे वैशिष्ट्य आहे. जो माणूस हा संघर्ष योग्य प्रकारे हाताळू शकत नाही त्याला नात्यातील दुभंगलेपण तुटलेपण अनुभवावे लागते आणि एखाद्या बेटासारखी माणसे एकाच घरात राहू लागतात. दिसायला एकत्र पण मनाने तुटलेली... मानवी भावभावनांचे हे गंभीर चित्रण माधवी सुदर्शन यांनी हलक्या फुलक्या व रसाळ शैलीत केले असल्याने प्रत्येक कथा वाचनीय ठरते.
