Apple Pies and Other Lies

<p>Growing up in the 90's my weekends were punctuated with endless VHS tapes and sleepovers with</p><p>friends. As the calendar flipped over to the 2000's and we became teenagers those weekend gettogethers inevitably began to include discussions of crushes and our own emerging sexuality. My early</p><p>years were spent in a conservative small town with little in the way of sex education and practically no</p><p>access to sex-positive resources. As such the teen movies of the 90's and 2000's taught me much of</p><p>what I knew about sex and sexuality.</p><p>This book is a love letter to the movies I grew up with a deep-dive into the teen films of the 90's and</p><p>2000's and the depictions of sexuality they contain. I'm taking a closer look at how these movies shaped</p><p>my own ideas about sex and how they measure up to real-life experiences and sexual facts. Apple Pies</p><p>and Other Lies explores the ways in which entertainment has been used to fill the gaps in our sexual</p><p>knowledge and why it's no substitute for comprehensive sex -ed.</p>
