The book examines the United Nations coordinated efforts to rebuild Liberia after a decade long devastating civil war. The United Nations Post-conflict Peace Building Commission with the cooperation and assistance of many specialized agencies national governments multinational and bilateral organizations non-governmental organizations and the Liberian government strives to reconstruct the political economic and social infrastructures that were destroyed during the civil war. The peace building effort identifies the conditions that predisposed the Liberian society to conflict the primary of which is the imbalance among the various ethnic groups. The reform initiatives targets the security judicial socio-economic development and national reconciliation with a view to enthroning good governance. Though peace building has its own pitfalls the effort is yielding good results as confirmed by the four hypotheses tested. The hope is that with sustained support from the international community more will be achieved in the long run.
