In this work we set out to analyze the inscription of appreciative and axiological modalities in the argumentative discourse of the written press. Our aim is to take a closer look at the ways in which discursive instances make use of different modal values to encourage readers to act in certain ways. After defining a few notions such as discourse argumentation and modality we proceeded with a meticulous analysis of our corpus focusing on the identification of modalizers with argumentative power. To do this we turned to Laurent Gosselin's modular theory of modality.
