Aroeira: an important species for the Cerrado

About The Book

The species Myracrodruon urundeuva Allemão (aroeira aroeira-do-cerrado aroeira-do-sertão aroeira-preta among others) is a species of the Anacardiaceae family of the Myracrodruon genus. This species is an important component of the arboreal vegetation of the caatinga being characteristic and dominant but it also extends into the shrubby caatinga Cerrado and Rain Forest. Aaroeira is one of the indicator species of mesotrophic cerradão within the cerrado area of Central Brazil such as Mato Grosso Goiás and Minas Gerais. The species M. urundeuva has a natural distribution limited to South America native to Brazil and more widely distributed in the northeast southeast and central-west regions also occurring in Bolivia Paraguay and Argentina. This plant is found in several of Brazil's biomes with the exception of the Amazon Region and Brazil's southernmost states. The production of seedlings of this species is still a difficult activity as the real nutritional requirements of this species are not yet known. In this work we are showing the first steps in producing seedlings and also evaluating their growth.
