Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) For Kids: The Abiotic Brain

<p>The vision of artificial intelligence replacing human professional judgment has arisen many times in the history of the field and today in some specialized areas where expert systems are used to augment or to replace professional judgment in some areas of engineering and of medicine. More than two centuries ago the Industrial Revolution was the most significant event in the human history since the domestication of animals and plants leading to five decades of growth and development making the western world almost unrecognizable.</p><p>Today the pace with which this disruptive technological revolution aided by AI is engulfing the humanity is not just swift but almost exponential. In every decade and with much faster frequency in the days to come we are wiping out our own inventions and innovations by terming them as obsolete. The greatest risks that AI poses to companies probably lie less in its potential for disruption and more in the unknowns surrounding it.</p><p>Scientists and academics sat up and took notice in 2016 when Alpha Go Google DeepMinds AI-driven computer won its five-match series against Lee Sedol the reigning world champion in Go the ancient Asian board game. Humans didnt teach the computerit taught itself how to master the game by playing it millions of times with another computer (through a set of techniques called deep learning) and independently responded to Mr Lees moves.</p>
