Artisanal Fishing in YOUPWE (Coastal Region of Cameroon)

The purpose of this study is: Artisanal fishing in Youpwe-Cameroon and its role in improving the living conditions of fishermen in the village. 69 fishermen participated in the interviews representing 35% of the 200 fishermen (MINEPIA-YOUPWE 2018) practicing in the canton. It emerged that in the locality there are two categories of fishermen: industrial which is made up of foreigners and traditional the majority of whom are nationals. The activity is mainly carried out by men with secondary education mostly Cameroonians. The survey of fishermen showed that the products are intended for trade and family consumption; although the fishing equipment is rudimentary the activity has many advantages in the lives of fishermen.
