Assessment of Susceptibility of Anopheles to Pyrethroids on LLINS

About The Book

One of the key elements in malaria prevention and control programs is Long-lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs). Insecticide- based malaria parasite vector control strategy will be affected by development of resistance by mosquitoes to recommended insecticides. The aim of this research was to assess the susceptibility of Anopheles species to pyrethroids on LLINs in New-Kanshio North-Bank and Wurukum areas of Makurdi Benue State Nigeria. A total of 12 used LLINs were bioassayed. The LLINs were of 1 2 3 and 4 year old from each of the areas with new LLINs as control. A total of 450 female Anopheles gambiae were used in the test. Mosquito larvae were collected from the three communities and reared in the laboratory from April to June 2014 and bio-assayed.
