Slums are often economically vibrant. As different researchers indicate that the general term of ‘slum’ describes urban areas that accommodate dilapidated or run down or the worst and deteriorated housing predominantly by the low income community. In the developing world one out of every three people alive in the city lives in a slum (UN-Habitat 2006/7). Nowadays in excess of 1 billion citizens in developing nations live in urban slum areas and these locales exist as marginalized spaces (Davis 2006).
