Attending antenatal care at the hospital versus clinic

About The Book

In this book DR Cibangu Katamba discusses the importance of quality antenatal care(ANC). The present study proposes to compare the rates of late emergency repeat caesarean section between attending ANC at the hospital and at the clinic for women who have had a previous caesarean delivery. The primary objective of this study is to establish if attending ANC at the hospital protects mothers with previous caesarean section from late access to emergency repeat caesarean section. The study will also seek to establish if late access to emergency repeat caesarean section is associated with increased rate of stillbirths. If proven that hospital care is better; recommendations will be formulated for policy makers and health care providers to either allow all pregnant mothers with previous caesarean delivery to attend ANC and deliver at the hospital (with a possibility of maternity waiting homes provision) or strengthen the referral system to emergency obstetric and neonatal care facilities or even empower clinics with comprehensive emergency obstetric and neonatal care capabilities.
