Now confined to a network of underground cities their bland reality has been concealed through augmented reality. Technology integrated into the eyes and ears masks and improves the way each person views their world. Everything from a person's appearance to the city's architecture has been re-sculpted. Virtual projections hide what is beneath and empower each person to project a perfect version of themselves to the world around them. Even telepresence robots: remotely piloted personal avatars have their appearance masked by their pilot's projection.</p><p></p><p>But in this seemingly perfect society several murders lead Detective Hal Briggs an outcast in his department from unexplained anomalies to conspiracy with the unpopular consequences likely to rock the society to its core.
