<p>The short-story is one of the most important literary subgenres in Urdu literature despite its relative youth. This was influenced by western and literary concepts and tendencies as well as the contemporary industrial and mechanized environment. Naqi Noor Dehlvi's short stories are interesting and fruitful. With the simplicity and informality of his stories he says something that cannot be accused of unnecessary strain and flight of imagination. Free from the exaggerations of everyday life his stories contain corrective allusions and unwholesome hints.
