About The Book

Postoperative sore throat (POST) is the most prevalent minor complication of general anaesthesia (GA) with endotracheal intubation. Even though it is considered as a minor complication it can cause significant morbidity and discomfort postoperatively. POST ranked as the eighth most adverse effect following general anaesthesia with an incidence of 21 to 65%. Many factors have been found to be responsible for post operative sore throat and it depends primarily on the method of airway management. It is frequently reported after tracheal intubation (45.4 %) whereas in supraglottic airway the incidence is found to be lower (17 .5 %) and i t is even less (3.3%) when a facemask is used as a mode of anaesthesia. The incide nce and severity of post operative sore throat is found to be more in female sex.
