Four Stories of Bandra old and new
We start in 1573 the year the Portuguese Jesuits came to Vandre
(so called in those days) and effectively put it on the map.
The next date is 1739 when the Maratha armies conquered
Bacaim Salcete - and Bandora -- and expelled the Portuguese from
these parts forever.
The year 1887 is our next milestone Queen Victoria's jubilee year
when Bandra's native Catholics acquired a new name: East Indian'.
And so to the recent past the 1963 where young Indians newly
independent sought to make sense of their world.
Four narratives each seen through the eyes of a young man the
Bandra Boy of the title. What he sees desires and becomes is the
grist of this narrative.
