This book documents the Battle of Lindley's Mill located in North Carolina during the Revolutionary War. THIS IS THE ONLY GOVERNOR IN THE USA EVER TAKEN PRISONER DURING THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR. This historical battle a 4 hour fight (very long for Rev. War) occurred to free N.C. Gov. Burke who was captured along with 200 residents of Hillsborough by nasty Tory David Fanning. David Fanning was directed to capture the Governor by the British (Maj James Craig). This was NOT coincidental as most history books describe Fanning's effort. This book provides information NEVER published before with original letters found in the Library of Congress and the British Archives. Included is a historical overview of the Lindley Mill property and a general discussion about the family. Revolutionary War pension records assist in detailing the events including the subsequent attempts to free the Governor at Brown Marsh. Lastly there is a detailed discussion about David Fanning which dispels a lot of folklore.
