With a very well-regarded and highly-rated season of live BBC TV police drama behind them in early 1962 producer David Rose and story editor John Hopkins consolidated their success with a second run of the series in 1962-1963. All the original cast were initially back although Jeremy Kemp and Dorothy White would depart the show mid-run and tragically Leonard Williams unexpectedly died three months into the season. New actors would also be introduced who would stay with the show for some time - Colin Welland Robert Keegan and Michael Forrest - as others fell by the wayside before the second run was complete including James Cossins and Leonard Rossiter.
