This work contributes to the overall knowledge of the behaviors of damaged journal bearings. In particular the influence of presence of the scratches on the performance of scratched journal bearings. A numerical thermohydrodynamic model has been developed it is able to simulate the influence of scratches on the characteristics of the bearing including the pressure flow rates temperature operating conditions and other relevant parameters. It is also able to determine limits of operation of scratched journal bearings. The numerical analysis of the performance of scratched journal bearings are also provided with a variety of configurations of the scratch geometry and operating conditions.
