BEHAVIOR SETTINGS NETWORKS IN URBAN NEIGHBORHOODS

About The Book

The Behavior Settings theory (or the Integrated Standards of Space and Behavior as used in another essay) elaborated by psychologist Roger Barker in the middle of the 20th century has in this work an unprecedented application in specialized research: in urban neighborhoods (from the Pilot Plan of Brasília). The hypothesis that guides the study is that urban neighborhoods if studied as Behavior Settings Networks may exhibit behavioral patterns of fundamental interest to public policies to promote the quality of urban life in a manner associated with physical aspects of their urban organization Not always urban neighborhoods are extensions of our homes - but if we wish to expand the residents'' belonging to this extraordinary ecological unit we should know how to explore the opportunities that exist in each case. This approach offers new avenues of research for Architecture for Urbanism in close collaboration with Ecological and Environmental Psychology.
