On one hand this is a collection of Mark Douglass newspaper columns on the other it is a series of meditations which connect the columns on what he was trying to do in the columns and how he thought he did. Combining theological depth political and culturaacumen and a vivid and sharp writing style the book is both an education in Douglas wise and persuasive understanding of religions role in public life and an education about how to communicate that understanding to others. His goal in writing about politics is to express a way of thinking about politics that reaffirms the idea that the deeply Christian virtues of faith hope and love not only could shape political vision but actually are shaping it.
