Antiquities of the Jews and The Wars of the Jews; Or The History of the Destruction of Jerusalem are the Best Books on Judaism included in this collection.
Antiquities of the Jews - One of the most significant and well-recognized ancient historians was Josephus. One of the earliest historians to describe Christianity he documented the disastrous First Jewish-Roman War that devastated Jerusalem in 70 A.D. His best-known publications were Antiquities of the Jews and The Jewish War (about the year 75 AD) (circa 94 AD).
From a Jewish point of view Antiquities of the Jews was written with Roman readers in mind. Josephus covers the history of the area and Jews in this extensive work from the Old Testament through the Jewish War.
The Wars of the Jews; Or The History of the Destruction of Jerusalem -
Flavius Josephus received citizenship in Rome after entirely defecting to the Roman side. While Vespasians son Titus oversaw the siege of Jerusalem in 70 CE he grew to be Titus friend and counsellor and acted as his translator. The city was soon destroyed and Herods Temple (the Second Temple) was looted and destroyed after the siege failed to put an end to the Jewish uprising.
The First Jewish-Roman War (66–70 CE) which included the Siege of Masada and the first century CE were particularly highlighted in Josephus account of Jewish history. The Jewish War (about 75) and Antiquities of the Jews were two of his most significant writings (c. 94). The Jewish War tells the story of the Jewish uprising against Roman rule.
