About the Author: "Dipesh Karmarkar completed his postgraduate degree in Geography and Ph.D. in Historical Geography from the University of Mumbai. His core academic interest lies in urban historical geography and place names, esp. in Coastal Western India. He has published 2 books, 15 papers, and 18 educational books. He has written extensively in Marathi periodicals and Marathi Vishwakosh on themes related to geography, development, tourism, globalization, and Marathi literature. He has delivered more than 40 invited talks on various themes in geography, historical geography, and general semantics. He has been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate Geography courses since 1996 and is currently working in the Department of Geography at Smt. C. H. M.
