Bhagawati Maayi / भगवती माई : भोजपुरी काव्य

‘Mother Durga’ or ‘Bhagawati Mayee’ is the principal Goddess of Hindus. She is Goddess of power and strength (Shakti) and was created by the trinity of Brahma Vishnu and Mahesh to combat and eliminate the evil demon Mahishasura.  Her different parts of the body were created by various Gods. She was created with a combination of the powers of all the other gods thus she became the supreme power greater than any of them. The gods gifted her their individual blessings and weapons. Armed like a warrior the goddess rode into battle on a lion. Bhagawati Maayi is the Great Mother of the universe who removes all of the evils and sufferings of devotees. Mother Durga protects the world from evils. Born fully grown and beautiful Durga presents a fierce menacing form to her enemies. She is usually depicted riding a lion and with eight arms each holding the special weapon of one of the gods who gifted to her for her battle against the demons. She is a multi-dimensional Goddess with many names many personas and many facets.
