Periodontal disease is an infectious painless and slowly progressive oral disease with a high incidence worldwide. Among the associated pathogenic flora is the anaerobic bacterium Porphyromonas gingivalis which has also been associated as an inducer of coronary lesions pneumonia and pre-eclampsia. In this study four plant species from northern Mexico were analysed: Krameria ramosissima Larrea tridentata Jatropha dioica and Leucophyllum frutescens from which their extracts were obtained by the continuous extraction technique using methanol as solvent; their yields were obtained and chemical tests were performed for preliminary identification of compounds. Cytotoxicity and mutagenicity tests were carried out on the most active compounds.
