Bioactivity and In Vivo Evaluation of some Inexpensive Composite
English

About The Book

Based on wollastonite a composite biomaterial is prepared from inexpensive pure limestone silica' sand and soda-lime-silica glass. The biocompatibility in simulated body fluid (SBF) increases with increasing the nominal wollastonite ratio and the SEM micrographs show fine spherical crystals within 20 to 200 nm of hydroxyapatite phase on composite surfaces. On the other hand the in-vivo results after implantation in rat femoral indicated the formation of new bone in all implanted samples. From the histological light microscope and SEM relatively dense new bone tissue increases with increasing wollastonite ratio.
