In this study leaves of Citrus medica and Citrus pennivesiculata were evaluated for their phytochemical constitution as well as for their antioxidant and antimicrobial activity in various solvent extracts. Phytochemical analysis showed the presence of many components with potential bioactivity. The antioxidant potential as revealed by FRAP analysis showed C. medica to have more potential as compared to C. pennivesiculata. Different extracts from these plants showed antibacterial activity against three bacterial strains tested. They were also tested for their anti-fungal activity. Both of them exhibited almost equal activity and showed their potentiality to be exploited as fungicides. This study thus justifies the use of these plants in traditional system of medicine. Further research on these plants may help in the isolation of therapeutically potent compound that can be commercially exploited in future for the well being of human society.
