Patulin is a water soluble unsaturated lactone produced by a number of fungal species belonging to the genera Penicillium Aspergillus and Byssochlamys. It is usually found in higher amount than other mycotoxins in fruits and vegetables especially in apples and apple products. It caused severe damage in several organ systems like kidney intestinal tissue and immune system. To study the effect of patulin mycotoxin on rats kidney. 50 inbreeding weanling white male rats were randomly divided randomly into 5 groups. Control group was daily injected subcutaneously with 1 ml distilled water; 2 treated groups were daily injected subcutaneously with patulin (0.2 mg/kg B.W) for one and two weeks respectively. The third group was injected subcutaneously by patulin for two weeks then treated with goji berry extract (2 mL/kg B.W) (Therapeutic) for two weeks. The last group was treated by goji for two weeks before injecting with the same toxin for two weeks (Prophylactic).
