Biodegradable Packaging Film from Industrial waste

About The Book

Synthetic films such as polyethylene polypropylene etc. have great impact on environmental pollution. To overcome this situation biodegradable films are introduced. The objective of this work is to produce biodegradable film from corn cob. Because of this growing problem of waste disposal researchers showed interest in developing and promoting ‘Biodegradable films’. Biodegradable films can be used for food packaging applications as it is considered as safe and derived from renewable resources. Corn (Zea mays) is a biomass resource cultivated all around the world. After usage of corn kernels by various food processing sectors the corn cob is left as waste and used as animal feed. Corn cob contains 41.67% cellulose 47.00% hemi cellulose lignin 7.27% and so it has potential to form film. The present study documents the production of biodegradable packaging film from corn cob.
