Biodiversity status of the Dhaya Lake site (Chrea National Park)

About The Book

The Mediterranean Basin hotspot is a center of endemism and a region of high current biodiversity probably in close and complex relationship with its past functions as glacial refuges and current refuges. The latitudinal proximity to colder temperate zones on the one hand and to tropical zones on the other is combined with the complexity of their landforms which produce orographic effects on the many local facets of climate. Indeed in order to develop conservation strategies and hope to effectively conserve biodiversity it is first necessary to assess the issue accurately: Providing information on the status of biodiversity is a critical first step highlighting the severity of the problem and encouraging societies to begin taking responsibility for their actions. It is in this perspective that this report plans to better characterize the site of Lake Dhaya located on the heights of Tamesguida in the heart of the National Park of Chréa and assess its faunistic and floristic biodiversity.
