About The Book
Description

This definitive field guide is a perfect addition to every bird enthusiast’s library. It covers over 450 bird species found in Delhi and its surrounding areas. These range from the most common to the rarest of the rare. The field guide is divided into handy sections describing each species in detail accompanied by photographs annotations and key diagnostic features. Some bird profiles also include behavioral traits to help the birders distinguish the species. Special feature spreads outline key birding hotspots across the city and the surrounding areas. Two key selling points of this book are two exclusive chapters written by renowned ornithologists Dr Martin Kelsey OBE and Bill Harvey. Dr Kelsey a warblers expert and Harvey an authority on pipits outline the key features on these birds -- traditionally very difficult to distinguish making it easy for all birders to tell apart these almost identical avians. About the Author Author: Nikhil Devasar was born brought up and continues to live in Delhi. In the year 2000 he revived the Delhibird Club an ornithological group that had not functioned for many years. Horace Gundry Alexander founded the Delhi Birdwatching Society along with Lt. Gen. Harold Williams in 1950. One of the earliest members was the young Indira Gandhi. Today Delhibird has a membership of over 3000 committed amateur and professional ornithologists. Nikhil has inspired and led many of the group’s conservation efforts such as monitoring the status of birdlife and their habitats. He organizes awareness and education programmes for young people as well as a census of Delhi’s birdlife through the annual “Big Bird Day” when numerous teams visit birding sites and compile species counts.Co-author: Rajneesh Suvarna has been watching nature since he was a kid and birds through school and college. A two-decade career in software allowed him to travel extensively all over the world letting him see nearly 40 per cent of all the bird species in the world. Work also brought him to Delhi where he spent seven years. He now lives in Bangalore and runs a bird tour company among other things.
