About The Book

The story of Black Ivory follows the adventures of a young Scottish boy named Lewis Ross who finds himself captured by Arab slave traders while traveling in Africa with his uncle. Lewis is taken into slavery and experiences the harsh realities of the African slave trade. Throughout the novel Lewis faces numerous challenges and dangers as he tries to survive and eventually escape from his captors. Along the way he encounters various characters both friend and foe and witnesses the brutality and inhumanity of the slave trade firsthand. Black Ivory is characteristic of Ballantyne's adventure novels which often explore themes of courage perseverance and the clash of cultures. The novel provides readers with a gripping and sometimes harrowing tale of survival and redemption set against the backdrop of the African wilderness.
