Blackness

About The Book

This study discusses the necessity and uses of racial references in academia and everyday life in Brazil. To this end it examines several theories that point to an innovative way of conceiving difference and its relationship with identity and representation. Subsequently a brief analysis is made of social thinking about black people in Brazil especially by theorists related to the social sciences. Understanding how this conception can outline a spectrum of what it means to be black in Brazil some spaces will be analyzed where the idea of being black has a different meaning appropriated by activists religious leaders and residents of black neighborhoods. Finally the analysis focuses on some concepts that aim to contribute to the intended theoretical discussion such as diaspora diffèrance and the concept of third space. The intention is to break with the idea of an ontological black being that would remain even if contrary to the logic of its constitution. However carrying in its historicity the artificiality of the creation of a racial theory that divided the concept of human into a perverse hierarchy legitimizing exploitation and abuse.
