They find the abandoned house and make it livable beginning with a few pieces of broken-down furniture. With their uncle's blessing the siblings set out to build an independent life.</span></p><p></p><p><span style=color: rgba(0 0 0 1)>Ann secures employment in a cotton mill in Oldham spinning cotton thread to support them as the Industrial Revolution sweeps through England. </span>Steam engines are increasingly utilized to power mills driving the demand for coal and transforming the town into a leading global producer of textiles. Hundreds of mills are established benefiting from the ample availability of labor fuel and the proximity to raw cotton supplied through the international port town of Liverpool.<span style=color: rgba(0 0 0 1)> </span></p><p></p><p><span style=color: rgba(0 0 0 1)>While being battered by the complexities of adulthood Ann steels her resolve to carve out a boundless future for her and her family. She soon learns life does not always unfold as planned.
