Bras��lia - tradition and modernity

In a Brazilian reality of the 1950s diagnosed by national intellectuals as anachronistic and backward the Brasilia project emerged to boost the country's growth symbolising modernity. It was an attempt to break away from the practices and thoughts anchored in the 19th century to place the country definitively in the industrial era aligned aesthetically and economically with the major world powers.
